What is Maximum VO2? Maximum VO2 is the maximum volume of oxygen that can be utilized during maximal exercise. It is measured as milliliters of oxygen used in one minute per kilogram of body weight. Max VO2 is one factor that can determine an athlete’s capacity to perform sustained exercise and is linked to aerobic endurance. It is generally considered the best indicator of cardiorespiratory endurance and aerobic performance. Elite endurance athletes typically have a high max VO2. There are studies that indicate it is largely due to genetics, although training has been shown to increase maxVO2 up to 20 percent. A major goal of Maximum VO2 Training Systems is for our athletes to exceed their genentic potential and realize their max potential.
